Before you touch anything0/12
Order matters: trades run structural → rough-in (plumbing/electrical) → plastering → waterproofing → tiling → cabinetry → painting → fit-off. Booking them in the wrong order is the most expensive beginner mistake.
Whole-home jobs worth bundling0/6
Rule of thumb: if a job needs scaffolding, a skip, or a licensed trade you're already paying for — bundle every other task that needs the same thing into the same week.
Frequently asked questions
How does the planner work out the total?
Each room or job you add is costed from published 2026 Australian ranges — the same brackets as our cost calculator — adjusted for its finish level, size or area, and your location. The planner adds them into a subtotal, then a 15–20% contingency, for the total you should actually budget to.
Does my plan save?
Yes. Your selected jobs, budget inputs and ticked checklist items are stored in your browser on this device, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. Nothing is sent to us and there's no signup.
Why does it add a contingency?
Because renovations rarely blow out on the quoted work — they blow out on what's found once walls open (rot, old wiring, out-of-level floors). Holding back 15–20% is the difference between a surprise you can absorb and one that stops the job.
